Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing (VASH) Program

The Office of Housing and Urban Devolopment (HUD) awarded the Housing Authority of the County of Butte rental assistance vouchers for the administration of the HUD-VASH (Veterans Affairs Supportive Housing) program! The HUD-VASH program provides rental housing assistance to qualified Homeless Veterans throughout Butte County in conjunction with case management services provided by a licensed clinical social worker at the VA. The section 8 vouchers are administered by the Housing Authority of the County of Butte. The VA social worker supports each veteran and assists him/her to utilize the resources they may need to maintain permanent housing.

This program was designed to address the needs of the most vulnerable homeless veterans. To be eligible for the program, veterans must be eligible for VA medical services, meet the definition for chronically homeless and willing to participate in case management services.

Individuals or families interested in the HUD-VASH program must first be determined eligible for services through the Department of Veteran Affairs. If found eligible the household will be given an opportunity to apply and referred to the HACB for the HUD-VASH program. To start the application process please contact the VA Homeless Triage line at (530)635-2467 or go to the VA Medical Center at 1601 Concord Ave, Chico, CA 95928 to speak with the HUD-VASH team.

Households interested in porting in to the HACB’s jurisdiction, under the HUD-VASH program, would first need to communicate with their current Housing Authority and VA HUD-VASH team to inquire about porting. Your local VA HUD-VASH team would need to contact the VA medical center here to authorize the transfer. Households interested in porting out of the HACB’s jurisdiction are encouraged to speak with their VA case worker as well as with the HACB to discuss eligibility for portability. The VA must assess the stability and support for the household in their desired location prior to their transfer.
